Mrs. Manicure

Hello nail care week! Caring for my nails is a very high priority on my life list.  I’ve been doing my nails for years, practicing to get better with each manicure and pedicure I gave myself.  I love learning the exact manicure procedure, so I can improve my skills.  We also learn a lot about sanitation, and it’s amazing how you view the world a bit different after learning it.  Noticing the small things that go completely overlooked by a lot of people; simply washing your hands, dropping things on the floor and reusing it, double dipping, sneezing/coughing on their hands and touching another person and overall considering “what did that touch” and asking yourself “is that sanitary.”  It’s a very important part of the beauty industry because I don’t think anyone would like someone sneezing-coughing-smoking-scratching-eating then applying your makeup or starting your hair service.  Yuck!  Wash your hands as often as possible :)

Today, after a day of theory yesterday, we finally had the chance to put our nail equipment to good use.  We learned how to do a basic manicure; the photos below are of Tracy doing my manicure.  As usual when learning a new skill Ms. B, our teacher, does a demo for us before we start working.  She also gives us a procedure list to follow while performing the manicure.  I’m one for taking a day each week to give myself a manicure and this is a perfect manicure for someone would come regularly for a nail service.  Would you go for a manicure biweekly if it was a good price?  And what do you think a reasonable price is for a manicure?

This is what we call “state board red”  when we go to take our state boards we will have to paint a fake hand with red nail polish.  I’m sure I will have many more colors are on my nails before the end of the week.  We will be doing more advanced manicures, pedicures, and a nail art competition Friday.  Have I mentioned how much I love the nail program :)

Thought of the day: “Life is a great big canvas, and you should throw all the paint you can on it.” – Danny Kaye

Now go paint your nails :)

Why do they make you wear fake red nails for the state boards?

No no we make a fake hand out of a rubber glove and fake nails and we give the fake HAND a manicure lol. Today we did the manicures on each other for practice. But we do not take a live model to boards that’s why ita a fake hand.
