The old Hollywood classic hairstyles like Marilyn Monore, Rita Hayworth and my personal favorite Audrey Hepburn—- all began from a good roller or pin curl set. They created the basis for what many modern hairstyles are molded after today. We learned pin curls so far this week and they were a lot tougher than they look. I needed to do some research on these 1940s, 1950s, 1960s hairstyles because I could not relate to these styles. Other than knowing it was a “old hollywood” look and it’s commonly worn in a similar way by celebrities.
In the reality of 2011, roller and pin curl sets are not just for celebrities or women of the past decades. Roller/pin curl sets could be beautiful on long or short hair using small or large rollers, whichever you’d prefer. It will also hold curl much better than a curling iron or hot roller set. So if you’re the type of person that says “no one could ever make my hair hold a curl” I’d say a good hairdresser and a roller set could prove you wrong :)
I took more of a vintage approach with my combout from the pin curl set. But really look at the pin curls I set, use your imagination to think about how many different varieties you can make to achieve your desired style. Teasing is something I need to work on, but I did win 3rd place in our competition for it :)
Here Marilyn Monroe’s beautiful old hollywood hairstyles that have helped inspire us all.
